This is the tax
our famous leaders collect at the gas pump in the Toronto/Brantford area:
Provincial Excise Tax
Federal Excise Tax
GST
Provincial Sales Tax
--About 30 cents a liter--
That's after taking nearly 1/3 of your paycheque and then 13% on just about all your purchases and services(and there are so many) some foods are exempt

Leaves one wondering what the heck do they do with it all?

Some call it freedom, freedom to help themselves in your wallet all the time.
Freedom? I call it slavery with a paycheque and the end result is the same.
The slave was allowed a family, wife, children, food, shelter, clothing, medical care etc...
Isn't that about the same of what the average Canadian is left with before pay day?
The land of the free

I would just like to comment on SAMANTHA CRAGGS article about Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome from the Thursday Nov. 13 Review. I have been living with EDS my whole life (29yrs) as has my mother and my now deceased Grandmother. From my experience the symptoms worsen with age. Although I have been able to live a normal life, I to have had to give up some physical activities such as playing hockey, etc. Because of dilocations and other tramas to the skin. I do agree that its more common then people and even Doctors realize. I was diagnosed by Dr.Hill of the Dermatology Dept. at the University of Alberta medical centre in 1984. As a precaution before I started school. Today it is more troublesome due to arthritis complications then anything else. If Samantha Craggs would like more info regarding EDS I do have articles that were given to my mother upon my diagnosis. She may contact me at the email address I have provided.

Another stock market and recession sham.
People of influence all over the world, crafty, who think that they own the world, decided to create an artificial financial crisis. They had a group of worthless heralds in the mass media who kept on telling us since six months ago, their little stanza: “recession will come”. The economy was doing fine, everyone was working hard, and if some problems may have occurred, we should have witnessed some mild inflation…strong inflation…and then recession. But these people were impatient and just put everything in high gear to see their plans succeed. If you look at the objective data they present, nothing is clear- but one thing is evident: the people of influence in all countries, including our own PM, played a game of financial crisis on all of us.
Again, the hard working class has lost billions to these scum bags.

if there were only a christian display would you have complained that there was nothing for the 'islamic religion'? somehow i doubt it. how i wish that all this religious business would just go away so people can get on with their lives!

I was reading on the Festival of Lights the new displays, how come there is a display for the Islamic religion and all displays relating to the Catholic religion had to be taken away. Either all religions are represented or none of the religions are represented.

I was reading the article by C. Laroque on the workshop on downtown revitalization, which was held, very fittingly, downtown. What I can't understand is why Coun. Ianonni can't keep quiet and LISTEN, as was expected of the city staff. Why is she taking the group off-topic by worrying WHERE the workshop is held, and not worrying about what we can do to help further revitalize our downtown?? Thanks for helping show this "honourable elected city official's" true colours, especially when she uses language like "friggin'".

Real nice, Counc. Ianonni.

Question: How many city workers does it take to lay 3 small sections of sod at Oakes park soccer field.
Answer: I counted 16 Wednesday afternoon. Perhaps 2 or 3 of them could have been cutting the grass on the sides of the roads that they have been doing all summer, but are in dire need of cutting now. Has the city stopped cutting these areas for the year ?

I am writing this letter in regards to the proposed closing of our hospital.

D.M.H. is an integral part of our community and any ideas that the N.H.S. has of the closing of this facility would be extremely detrimental to our town and it's residents.

We live in a community of 30,000 people that has a steadily rising senior population, borders the U.S.A. and is home to a major gaming facility. What would happen if the Peace Bridge was the target of a terrorist attack? This is a very realistic threat according to the Department of Homeland Security in the U.S. What will happen to our towns population if Nordic Gaming's $300,000,000 revitalization and expansion of the Racetrack property comes to fruition? It surely will rise by leaps and bounds. How many lives will be lost as a direct result of this proposal? One life is too many but the toll will definitely be greater. These are just a few simple questions that need to be addressed and answered for the people of Fort Erie.

I would like to finish by sharing a personal story and how the hospital has touched my family. In February of 1992 my wife bled internally and was brought back to life by the E.R. staff at the hospital. She would never have made it to another facility. Without this hospital my family does not exist today. I'm sure this story can be repeated scores of times.

Don't give a life to save a dollar! Fight this until the end!

Keep our hospital alive! Keep our residents alive!

After 20 years of travelling across this great nation of ours, and defending my home town of Niagara Falls, against those who say it's a backwards tourist trap, I'm done.
How could a city so close to the border watch the decimation happening, on the other side and say, "Yes! That's the kind of government that I want.".
I understand the cult of personality, but it is quite obvious that the "Highway of Heroes" does not run through Niagara Falls. I have an open invitation to all those that voted for the Conservatives. I will gladly buy you dinner here in Toronto if you are willing to come up and put a big Niagara Falls bumper sticker on the box of the next young man or woman that they send home from Afghanistan. Any takers?
Sincerely
Paul Smith

The article in today's Toronto Star, Saturday Oct 11th 2008 outlines that Scarborough Hospital with a series of back-to-back deficits and bitter community relations (ring a bell with the NHS) has under Rob Devett's president and CEO of Toronto East General Hospital, on behalf of the Ontario health ministry, as supervisor has turned this hospital around...they have reduced their deficit by half and this year even has a $1 million budget surplus. if he is finished there...any chance he could make a trip to Niagara?
