NOTL U9 Soccer Team Ends Season
The NOTL U9 Soccer team ended their season with a 6-1 playoff loss to Roma. Despite the score, the game was a closely fought battle as Roma took a 1-0 led into the half with a late goal. Playing goal, Adam Dingman stymied the Roma team during the first half and then made some terrific runs in the second half as he tried to get the Storm on the board. Blake Langbroek and Ben Glauser also had numerous runs, but, were unable to capitalize. Eventually, the Storm's Connor Kudeba found the net when he took a crossing pass from Dylan Cox who made a long run beating two defenders before finding Kudeba in the open. At that point the score was 4-1 and the Storm kept pressing, but, Roma scored two late goals to seal the victory. Jack Debon and Gregg Walton at sweeper and Logan Martineau at midfield finished their seasons with excellent efforts in the game. The Storm improved all season as they had a .500 record in the second half of the year. Next year should be exciting as a number of players will still be eligible to play U9 next year, including Cox, Kudeba and Martineau while Dingman, Debon, Langbroek and Glauser will provide a strong foundation for the U10 team. Last Friday 3rd August In N.O.T.L. a full house witnessed an exciting encounter between two evenly matched soccer teams in the under 10 travel league. Port Colborne scored the first goal of the game on neat passing play to take a 1-0 lead. The N.O.T.L. team with a shortened bench were feeling the pace too quick from the stronger Port Colborne team, However against the run of play the Storm tied it up on a fine solo effort from Trenton Farmer who was producing one of his better games. The game see sawed back and forth with both teams enjoying long periods of possession. It was not too long before the Port Colborne team took command and scored two goals to take a commanding 3-1 lead into the interval. The Niagara on the Lake team came out for the second half with their goalkeeper Austin Karner starting in defense which seemed to rejuvenate the Storm. Karner was producing some strong running down the right hand side of the field opening up the Port Colborne defense like a can of tuna. That proved to be the spark that the Storm needed, sending them into all out attack. 10 minutes after the restart the Storm scored a in a goal mouth scramble courtesy of Kyle Juras, who was causing the Port Colborne defense to have nightmares. The Storm made another tactical maneuver late in the game by introducing another talented potent striker Issac Bjorgan, his tying goal with five minutes remaining sent the N.O.T.L crowd into raptures. The Storm were now out for blood and three minutes later Bjorgan scored again which proved to be the winner with seconds remaining. The final score on the night was Port Colborne 3 N.O.T.L. Storm 4. Again there were some outstanding players for the Storm on the night namely, Bgorgan, Juras, Karner, Nickel, Daniels, Kudeba, and Farmer, Rollason. Titans report
